Staff Spotlight: Jeff Pierce - associate athletic & activities director at Lincoln Northeast High School
October 31, 2025
Every week, we shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! This week, meet Jeff Pierce, associate athletic and activities director at Lincoln Northeast High School.
“Jeff might be one of the most enthusiastic Rockets in the building. From raving about LNE's history and legacy at staff meetings to telling freshmen they should be proud to compete in a Rocket jersey on their first day, he lives and breathes school pride. While Jeff may have the word ‘director’ in his title, he can and will do anything to serve any job for the numerous programs at LNE. He serves concessions, collects tickets, greets students and seems to know just about everyone. I had the privilege of working concessions at a volleyball fundraiser with Jeff, and he was so eager to hear about my journey to LNE and how my first year of teaching was going. Whenever Jeff is mentioned, coaches and teachers alike always have something nice to say. When he passes you in the hallway, you'll be wished ‘great day and an even better weekend.’ He is a warm and welcoming presence for the entire Rocket community, and we are lucky to have him.” - Madeline Stoerp, English teacher at Lincoln Northeast High School
In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
My role as an associate athletic and activities director is to assist the athletic director in managing the department’s day-to-day operations including facility and event management, scheduling of facilities for practices, games and events, athletic code of conduct compliance and academic checks, support coaches and sponsors, hiring and evaluations, event social media, follow NSAA and LPS district policies, as well as complete any other tasks that help to support a positive athletic and activities environment.
How long have you worked for LPS?
This is my 28th year in LPS, and 36th in education. During that time I have taught elementary, middle and high school, coached and served as an administrator.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
Having been a student in LPS, several people helped me during very difficult times growing up. Those experiences helped shape me into the person I am today.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
Working at Lincoln Northeast, I get the opportunity to invest in people to help them grow. Every day is an opportunity to make a positive difference for someone. There is nothing greater than helping others achieve their goals and help them become who they are meant to be.
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
Growing up I was a student in LPS at Lakeview Elementary and Everett Junior High. Later, I moved and graduated from Milford High School.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
After I graduated high school, I worked a year for the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department. I attended Doane College and completed a bachelor’s and master’s degree. I added an additional endorsement from Nebraska Wesleyan. Finally, I earned an education specialist endorsement in educational administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
Lincoln is a great place to live and raise a family. My wife and I have three sons who have graduated from LPS, one at Lincoln High and two at Lincoln Northeast.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
The book, "Am I That Man: How Heroes, Role Models and Mentors Can Shape Your Life" had been given to me. It helped me to realize that I have an opportunity to be there for others that may need someone in their life as I did when I was growing up.
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
There are so many. Bill Hunsaker and Rex Scott encouraged me to never let go of my ambitions and dreams, as they would happen if I was persistent and never stopped trying until I reached them.
