Psychology teacher named one of the best in the country

A Lincoln High School teacher has been named one of the top high school psychology teachers in the country.

Lindsey Herting was awarded the Charles T. Blair-Broeker Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Psychological Association. She’s one of only three teachers in the country to be honored.

“This award means the world to me. There are many deserving psychology teachers, and I was lucky enough to have been nominated and selected this year,” Herting said. “I'm honored to join a list of impressive educators who have won this award. It's a very special moment in my teaching career. This award also serves as a reminder of how fortunate I am to teach psychology at Lincoln High. Psychology curriculum is inherently relevant and almost effortlessly engages students. Who wouldn't want to participate in a course that results in a better understanding of your thoughts, your behaviors and ultimately, what makes you, you?”

Herting was nominated by Lincoln Public Schools K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Specialist Jaci Kellison and LPS Assessment/Evaluation Specialist Rob McEntarffer.

“Lindsey’s success in education is also due in part to her ability to build positive relationships of trust and support with her colleagues,” they said in their nomination letter. “Not only is she a strong leader when working with teachers, she also creates positive working relationships with teachers from other schools. Through her patience, experience and willingness to listen and collaborate, she has earned the respect of psychology teachers throughout Lincoln Public Schools, in Nebraska and across the country.”
