Belmont TRACKS program welcomes newest scholars

Young scholars, their families and educators gathered in the Belmont Elementary School library on March 21 to celebrate the newest Belmont TRACKS Empowerment Leadership Group.

Eleven fourth-grade scholars were inducted into this year’s group, which will meet weekly through mid-May and take part in leadership experiences that focus on achieving their full potential. The program, now in its 11th year, utilizes a strength-based approach to foster participants’ identity, self-advocacy skills and personal vision.

This year’s Belmont TRACKS Empowerment Leadership Group scholars are: J.J. Stewart, Huda Almaleki, Gung Laam, Dawneyel Purdie, Sebastian Martinez, Malayna McFarling, Edem Looky, Keely Moore, Ace Hickman and Santi Lussier.

“It’s awesome to see this room full to celebrate and hear the greatness you know and that Belmont sees in each of these scholars,” said Peter Ferguson, coordinator of the LPS Youth Development Team and the TRACKS program. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a small part of this group’s journey this year.”
